Running a Successful Blog – Overview

Well the time has come to say good bye to the running a successful blog series. I know, I know we are not happy about it either but it’s time for you to grow and go out there and explore for yourselves how to run a successful blog. But don’t worry, in this post I plan on doing a nice little overview of what we had talked about over the past few months.

Setting up a blog:

Here we discussed what goes into setting up a blog, what kind of software is out there and what kind of plugins you should be using. The main take away from this post is to make sure you look for the software that will yield the most customization for SEO, whether that comes via a plugin or via easily able to edit the code to make your blog as SEO friendly as possible. Finding the Right Niche –

In this post we went over how important it is to come up with the right niche for you blog. Whether it should be something specific or whether it should be something a bit broader. The important thing is to pick a niche you won’t get tired of writing about and that you can continually post new content to on a regular basis. Read the full post on finding the right niche.

Writing Blog Posts –

We talked about how long your content should be, what you should write about and how to write content people will like. The key thing to remember when writing blog posts is to keep in mind who your audience is and what your blog is about. You don’t want to talk about movies when 90% of your blog is about tractors. Social Media –

Probably the most popular post of the series, here we talked about some of the major social media sites you should attack when writing blog posts. Some will yield you great results early on while others will take a bit more time to get into. The point being that you should never give up hope and keep tucking along. Updating the Blog –

Here we went over how often you should update your blog. The important thing here is that you should update your blog as often as you can when you have solid content for your readers. Try to at least update your blog once to twice a week and do not go without posting longer than a month or you could run the risk of losing rankings and more importantly readers. Blog Maintenance –

This post talked about what goes into maintaining your blog and how often you should go about maintaining your blog. As updates are released for your blog software and/or plugins it is important to keep those up-to-date. Set yourself reminders to go in and do it at least once a month. Updating your blog/plugins will help in avoiding the possibility of hackers/spammers finding security holes in the software and causing problems on your site. Read the full post on blog maintenance.

Blog Tracking –

In this post we went over how to track your successes and your failures, as well as how important it is to track any and everything you do on your blog. If you are using Google Analytics be sure to utilize the annotations feature that they rolled out with. That way you will know exactly what day you implemented your new strategy.
