The idea of using widgets specifically for building SEO value has mostly come & gone, but if you have a great idea and the widget is highly useful/used by your site visitors then you should still see positive results. Just be careful to ensure that your widget is actually related to the site you're linking to or you could get the backside of Google's right-hand.
